ATTENTION LANDLORDS - INSULATION DEADLINE APPROACHES

ATTENTION LANDLORDS - INSULATION DEADLINE APPROACHES

As of 01 July 2019 all New Zealand rental properties are required to comply with certain levels of insulation.
Any Landlords who do not comply with these regulations by 01 July 2019 are committing an unlawful act and risk fines of up to $4000 under the Residential Tenancies Act 1986.

The insulation regulations require all rental properties to have the required level of ceiling and underfloor insulation where it is reasonably practicable to be installed.

These levels are dependent on the type of construction and age of property but generally as follows…
Ceilings – R3.3
Underfloor – R1.3

For the past 2 years all Landlords or Landlord's agents have been required to provide a statement accurately describing the levels and condition of the insulation in each property but with the critical deadline now just 12 months away, action is required for all properties that are not compliant.

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, or would like any assistance with ensuring your property is compliant.
